I believe being “born of the water” refers to the physical birth we all must go through in order to enter this world. The explanation of being “born of the water”comes when Jesus says, “That which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”, (John 3:6 NASU).
Jesus is talking about two births in the above passage. One is physical and the other is spiritual. Jesus is evidently talking about physical birth when he brings up the fact that flesh produces flesh. When Jesus speaks about someone being “born of the water” he is talking about when a woman’s water breaks before giving birth. Jesus is talking about a spiritual birth, or being born again, when he says “spirit produces spirit”.
I believe that there is too much of a “mystical” type of thinking that exists in the world of spirituality. Many of the world religions claim to know God. There are all types and forms of godliness that appear to be real. There is only one truth that exists that matters. You must be born again.
