The Bible speaks of “life everlasting” (Luke 18:30 KJV). What is temporal about everlasting? Again the Bible says “He that believeth hath eternal life” ( John 6:47 ASV). How can that which is eternal be temporal? Is God temporal or is he eternal? Why would the word eternal that describes God no longer be eternal when it describes our destiny with him?
These questions should not need to be asked. The reason they need to be asked is because there are some Christians that are not secure in their faith. They have a temporal understanding of salvation. They think they have control over their destiny after they are born again. That would be like saying that once I am human I can chose not to be human if I want to.
The scripture is very clear on our eternal security. Once I am alive spiritually I will remain alive forever. Scripture says “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28 KJV). It says we will never perish. What is there we misunderstand about the word never?
There is a reason people struggle with believing they can be lose their salvation. There is a natural tendency to give ourselves too much credit when it comes to our salvation. In Proverbs it says “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is death” (Proverbs 16:25 ASV). We place way too much importance on our good works. The way that seems right to us is good works. They cannot save you nor can they keep you saved. Only Gods eternal seal can keep you secure once you come into his family. We read, “And greave not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed until the day of redemption” (Eph 4:30 ASV).
We were sealed until when? Are we sealed until we sin? No!! We were sealed until the day of our redemption. That seal even protects me from myself. My sin does not affect my son ship relationship with God. My sin affects my fellowship with him. If I am His child once, I will be His child forever! Thank God that I can feel secure in him. It is because of this security that I can say I have a peace “which surpasses all comprehension” (PHP 4:7 NASU). How could I have that kind of peace if I was not secure in Him? Praise Him forever more.
