They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool”. (Isa 1:18NKJV). When we become Christians we enter into a right standing with God.
Let me explain the purpose of believing here. Believing is not some magical requirement that God places on us. If you do not believe that your debt is paid for, you will keep trying to earn eternal life by your lifestyle. Your lifestyle will never be good enough to gain you eternal life.
In Romans it says, “For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God” (Romans 10:3 ASV).
The religious leaders of that time did not know about God’s righteousness. They tried to establish their own righteousness. In doing so they never got under God’s grace. When you are under his grace you are in right standing with God. They tried to follow the law, which we all are incapable of following. When we accept God’s eternal gift to us we are saying that our lives are His. This is in exchange for what Christ did for us.
When Jesus called the twelve disciples all but Judas followed him and forsook all. There is a cost to us if we want eternal life. That cost is our life. We must die to ourselves.
