We read in Matthew, “Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and if fell not: for it was founded upon the rock. And every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof” (Matt 7:24-27 ASV).
We often look at God as if he is a Genie in a bottle. We think he is there to respond to our every beck and call. We treat God as if he was made for us. The truth is we were made for him! When we are obeying him he will work on our behalf. That does not mean we know what is best for us. What seems like bad things in our lives may have great long term ramifications.
We reject the idea of God when we are deceived. When we get taught something that is not true, we believe it and begin to practice life assuming what we were taught is true. But, when we find out what we were taught is not true, we get upset. Sometimes we begin to doubt everything that we have ever been taught. This causes us to become lackadaisical. We should be seeking more, not less. We seek less, however, because we have lost trust in what others tell us. We have also lost trust in our own ability to search out the truth.
There is truth out there. You just have to find it. When you find the truth it will illuminate your world.
