Let me explain. I cannot be good enough to be saved, but I should want to be good once I am saved.
Good works will not save you. If we could be saved by our good deeds we would not have needed for Jesus to come and create a way for us to be set free from our sinful lives. Our good works would have been enough.
On the other hand, once I gave my life to Christ I wanted to be good. I no longer wanted to do what was bad.
That does not mean I did not still do things that were wrong. What my heart wanted me to do and what my body was accustomed to doing were two different things. However, something unique did start to take place in my life. A process of change began in me. It is the process of sanctification.
Sanctification is the change that takes place in a Christian’s life over the course of time. The Christian’s life is not perfect, but can become more fulfilling and rewarding over time. With our growth also comes a peace that many only dream about.
