That is why we do not have the patience to wait for a better opportunity to come. We are too busy masking the last mistake. We are trying to hide the last mistake so we don’t have to feel bad about it. We are hoping that our next venture will be successful. If it works out we will feel good and our problems will seem solved.
This happens in the world of investing all the time. Even though we may not look at our investing as gambling, they are closely related. In investing we may be able to have a little better idea of the outcome than in gambling. We still do not know the future however and there are risks involved. We make a bad investment only to run down the court of life and foul things up again by making another bad investment right after the last one.
For those standing on the outside looking in, it can seem quite obvious what others are doing. For those who are actually in the game, there are emotions that go along with playing the game. These emotions have a tendency to blind us. When we are blinded by these emotions we get into a vicious cycle of taking losses and immediately trying to make up for the old lost by making another investment.
What we may not realize is that we are chasing hope. Everybody wants to have something to hope for. Hope gives us a reason to get up in the morning. Hope gives us a reason to live another day. If there wasn’t any hope in our lives we would quit trying. When we don’t get what we hoped for, it makes you sick. It is our avoidance of this sickening feeling that keeps us in these cycles of insanity.
We need to ask ourselves are we in one of those cycles right now? Would we like to get out of it? In order to do that we might need to stop what we are doing entirely. Then we need to let a little time pass. This allows for the emotions that are running ramped in our lives to settle down and go away. When the emotions are removed we can think more clearly. Only when thinking clearly can we stop the cycles that keep baiting us back into situations that cause us to act at the worst possible time.
